The use of 2-(N-(1, 1-dimethyl-omega-phenyl-alkyl)-amino)-1-(6-hydroxy-4H-benz-(1, 4)-oxazin-3-on-8-yl)-ethanol derivatives (I) for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is new. The use of benzoxazinonyl-ethanolamine derivatives of formula (I) (including individual optical isomers, enantiomer mixtures and racemates) or their acid addition salts is claimed in the production of medicaments for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). n = 1 or 2; R1, R2 = H, alkyl, halo, OH or alkoxy; R3 = H, alkyl, OH, halo, alkoxy, carboxyalkoxy or alkoxycarbonylalkoxy; alkyl moieties have 1-4C. Independent claims are included for : (a) inhalable pharmaceutical formulations containing (I); and (b) new benzoxazinonyl-ethanolamine derivatives of formula (I' ) (including optical isomers, salts etc.). n = 1; R1' , R2' = H or alkyl; R3' = alkyl, OH, alkoxy, carboxyalkoxy or alkoxycarbonylalkoxy; and provided that : (1) alkyl moieties have 1-4C; and (2) if R1 and R2 are both ortho-methyl, then R3 is not OH.
